working principle

The serial port splitter creates multiple virtual COM ports linked to a specified physical COM port. Any application recognizes the virtual serial port as the usual hardware COM port.

When a communication application opens a virtual serial port, data from the physical COM port will be sent simultaneously to all open virtual COM ports. Conversely, the data written to the virtual COM port by each communication application will be sent to the physical COM port.

Split physical COM ports

This program allows you to split a physical COM port into multiple virtual COM ports. Each virtual serial port is displayed as an exact copy of the hardware COM port. Therefore, several communication applications can simultaneously exchange data with serial devices connected to physical COM ports.

Shared physical COM port

The serial port splitter can also open a single physical COM port simultaneously through multiple communication applications. This is very similar to splitting, but in this case, the serial communication application can access serial devices using the same COM port name without creating multiple virtual COM ports. Therefore, you do not need to adjust each communication application to use a separate virtual COM port.

Join physical COM port

If you need to send data to multiple serial devices simultaneously from a single communication application, you only need to add the physical COM port to a virtual port. In this case, data from each physical COM port will be sent to the virtual serial port. In addition, data from communication applications will be sent through virtual COM ports to all joined hardware COM ports.

Full hardware serial port simulation

Virtual COM ports fully simulate the behavior of hardware COM ports, so any serial communication application can use virtual COM ports as if they were hardware COM ports.

Run as a system service

This program makes the virtual serial port accessible every time the system starts, even before the user logs in. After configuration is completed, a virtual COM port will be automatically created, and you do not need to make any adjustments or even log in to the operating system.

Usage examples

Insert the GPS receiver into hardware COM1 on the computer. You need to send data from the GPS receiver to three different communication applications.

This program divides COM1 into three virtual COM ports, which are exact copies of COM1. The virtual serial port is internally connected to COM1. Once the communication application opens the three virtual COM ports accordingly, they will start receiving data from the GPS receiver through COM1.
